Google Analytics' educational messages

Google Analytics offers a treasure trove of data about a user's website. It can take some time to explore everything that Google Analytics has to offer, so much so that it wouldn't be wise for Google to spill all the details at once.

Instead, as users stumble across new metrics and pages they haven't visited, Google Analytics includes a helpful educational message.

Why this is really good UX:

  • The tip itself blends into the content of the rest of the page, giving users a seamless educational experience. They also give users the option to hide all educational messages in case they'd rather not see any.
  • Google Analytics includes plenty of information on the metric in question. They essentially answer the Who, What, When, Where and Why of, in this case, The Social Relationship. These are all important contextual points to introduce to the user, so they can fully understand the metric and how it fits into their web strategy.
  • Including a helpful diagram to the right consolidates the importance of The Social Relationship into an easy visual. Users can quickly understand the basics of what goes into determining this metric.
