Airtable's context-specific tooltips
Airtable is a spreadsheet-database hybrid. It's a cloud-based collaborative app that lets teams (and individual users) organize pretty much anything. The same breadth of features that makes Airtable so valuable to experienced users can overwhelm new users. To avoid information overload and give new users the most helpful advice at the right times, Airtable shows users relevant tooltips in context as they use the app.
Why this is really good UX:
- The copy has a conversational tone and doesn't use jargon specific to the product.
- The message of each tip is short and simple, giving users the option to learn more where appropriate.
- The tooltips offer preemptive help without interrupting the user or forcing them to click through a needlessly long and passive onboarding flow.
