Forecast's project management tooltip walkthrough
Keeping track of all the moving pieces surrounding digital projects isn't easy. Tasks and deadlines in one tool, people and workloads in another, budgeting and planning in a thirdβthe sheer number of different tools aimed at agencies, software companies, and other project-oriented organizations kills efficiency and makes effective coordination and planning nearly impossible.
It's a problem Forecast aims to solve. Their somewhat unique approach combines resource management, project planning, and team collaboration tools into a single unified interface. By bridging the gap between current states and future plans, Forecast gives both project managers and team members more control and visibility into their projects, helping teams make better project decisions, adjust plans quickly, and stay efficient.
Forecast's user onboarding experience is built with Appcues, walking users through each section of the app using integrated modals and call-outs. Each call-out is styled to look like a native part of the product, and clearly points out the key features and benefits of the app.
The Scheduling section of the app includes a more comprehensive walk-through of the functionality, including animated images within each call-out, giving a quick overview of each feature.
Towards the end of the onboarding sequence, the app also asks users for feedback on the βmost boring partβ of their workflow, so that the team can work on automating it within the app. While users might not be ready to give feedback this early on the app itself, asking questions about how they're currently completing tasks gives the Forecast team valuable feedback to help improve the product.

Why this is Really Good UX:
- Forecast uses walk-throughs and call-outs to quickly walk new users through their feature-rich interface, quickly getting them up to speed with the product and increasing the likelihood they'll continue using the product.
- Each onboarding element is styled to match the look like a native part of the application, providing a more seamless user experience without needing to rely on designers and developers to update each onboarding element.
- Forecast wastes no time requesting feedback from new users on how they can improve their solution, getting around the lack of direct experience within the product by asking general questions about users' workflows.
